DOLPHINS BEGIN 2017 ON WINNING NOTE

  • Miami’s 19-17 win over the L.A. Chargers gives Miami a winning start to the 2017 season and the Dolphins sit atop the AFC East standings. Miami now has 10 wins in its last 12 regular season games and has won four of their past five season openers. The Dolphins are 28-23-1 all-time in the team’s first game of the season. Starting QB Jay Cutler improved to 7-4 in season openers.

PARKEY FIELD GOAL WINS THE GAME

  • K Cody Parkey’s 54-yard field goal with 1:05 remaining was the game winner in his Dolphins debut. The kick was the longest game-winning field goal in Dolphins history and capped a perfect 4-for-4 day for Parkey. The Jupiter, Florida native is now 59-of-69 (85.5 pct.) in career field goal opportunities and a perfect 6-for-6 (100.0 pct.) from 50-plus yards.. He also tallied his 250th career point today and now has 259 career points.

AJAYI SNAPS CHARGERS STREAK

  • RB Jay Ajayi rushed for 122 yards today snapping the Chargers’ streak of 17 straight games without allowing a 100-yard rusher. The streak dated back to Jan. 3, 2016 when Ronnie Hillman rushed for 117 yards for the Broncos and was the longest active streak in the NFL. It is the fifth 100-yard rushing performance of Ajayi’s career. He had four in 2016.

AJAYI’S BIG GAINS

  • RB Jay Ajayi continues to create big plays in the running game as he had three carries for 10-plus yards. In 2016, Ajayi was third in the NFL with 39 carries of 10-plus yards.

LANDRY’S EIGHT FIRST-HALF RECEPTIONS

  • WR Jarvis Landry finished the game with 13 receptions for 78 yards (6.0 avg.). His 13 receptions are tied for second-most in team history and are the most since Landry had 13 himself on Nov. 29, 2015 at N.Y. Jets.

CUTLER MAKES HIS DOLPHINS DEBUT

  • QB Jay Cutler completed 24-of-33 passes (72.7 pct.) for 230 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in a winning effort in his first game with the Dolphins. It is the 40th time in Cutler’s career he has posted a quarterback rating of 100.0 or higher.

CUTLER THROWS HIS FIRST DOLPHINS TOUCHDOWN

  • QB Jay Cutler hit WR Kenny Stills for a 29-yard score in the third quarter. It was Cutler’s first touchdown pass as a member of the Dolphins. Cutler has now thrown 209 touchdown passes in his career and holds the Bears all-time franchise record with 154 touchdown passes.
